This week we were prompted to think about contrasts within ourselves. Our personalities and what we think / say.
Everyone is a multi-faceted human so thinking about what little quirks make you, you is pretty fun!

GET MESSY 2017 | CONTRAST | WEEK 4

I am in my second year of creating daily for my daily moleskine project as well as the second year of partaking in a creative 100 day project. I also am an active member of get messy art journal.

One of my favourite things about get messy is that you get prompts each week to create from. These prompts are based on a theme, from whatever season the program is in (for example, we are currently in the season of contrast) and they work as an excellent springboard for imaginative and creative pages. Sometimes i can completely go off on a tangent in what i create for get messy, but i am almost always inspired by the prompts.

When creating for my own individual projects, without these prompts, sometimes I can hit a brick wall. I have no idea what or how I want to say and scouring Pinterest and instagram without purpose can be overwhelming.

Here is a quick list of what I turn to when I feel this way, hopefully this can help anyone else struggling too!

1.What have you dreamed of recently?

Sometimes I sketch my dreams out, or just write them down, play by play.

2.What are you listening to?

3.Real Words

Have you had any inspiring or annoying conversations with people recently? Or listened to any podcasts?

4.Is there anything in the news that resonates with you?

5.What is today?

World earth day or the beginning of a new season… even national doughnut day!
All of these things have inspired me in the past to create pages that I love.

ART JOURNAL | INSPIRING YOURSELF

This week was a bit of a battle for me. I was trying to push myself to create in a way that wasn't necessarily natural to me (as prompted by EmK from the week 3 set of prompts) as well as a separate battle between me and the blue light that was around when I was taking photographs of my pages!

Cuts
- collage, pen & stamps

Chaos & Calm
- collage, washi tape, acrylic paint

I love this page and the process from behind it. My chaos is the ripped pieces and the eclectic mix of colour and mediums.
My calm is the small, neat triangles.

Think
- pen

I was re-visting the fish/leaf shape that Amy spoke about in the webinar last week. I was also exploring using materials I don't usually gravitate towards. Pastel shades and thin lines.

The quote comes from this episode of ladies who lunch - a favorite podcast of mine.

Yesterday & Tomorrow
- pen & ink

A little life reminder from the Dalai Lama

GET MESSY 2017 | CONTRAST | WEEK 3

This week was a super inspired week for me!

Starting with this friend or foe stencil page from a tutorial Vanessa shared on the Get Messy blog last week.

I don't know what it is about cheetahs, but they keep appearing in my subconscious recently.
I've been dreaming about them and finding them in imagery.

Get Messy hosted a make-along with their season artist, Amy Maricle. I watched this for the hour it was on and... had some serious making time! It might be one of my favourite ways to create, alongside others. I loved hearing about Amy's art therpaist background (more here) and her approach to making art journal pages. Amy is very hands on, un afraid and organic.

Things I want to incorporate more and more into my own art practice.

Finger painting!

Venting through art journalling - is there any better way?

I love the mix of patterns and colours here, made from really simple paintbrush marks.

Layers of repetitive marks.

It's a bit unbelievable how much you can make in only one hour!

GET MESSY 2017 | CONTRAST | WEEK 2

Todays post is my 4th in the color blast series - a group of colour themed journals that are literally travelling the world through the artists listed below.

Mint was the colour I was most apprehensive about, I don't use it often and on a personal level, don't really connect with it.

So it was a surprise to myself that I made all of the pages (and loved them) in this post in less than an hour!

Color Blast 2017:

Julia - Orange
Vanessa - Grey
Lauren Brown - Green
Lauren Blood - Purple
Moriah - Crimson
Sarah - Mint
Riet - Yellow

This is part of some wrapping paper that I have been hoarding and using sporadically in journals for about 8 years.
Fun fact - it was from my 20th birthday when I discovered that my now-husband / then-new boyfriend chose (and still chooses) ridiculously good gift wrap. Thank you paperchase!

The next page says "Go!" so i created this collaged prequel

I added the little watercolour collaged pieces to Sarah's page

I found this magazine image on the right and thought it suited Vanessa's page on the left.
Also, super proud of myself for mixing that mint colour acrylic!

My absolute favourite page - the most fun to create and look back at!
