I got really into making my Christmas cards this year, I honestly had a blast on Sunday doing this! My favourite is the overliad spray paint as it looks like snow, but I am also fond of a little festive fuschia! ;)

YEY CHRISTMAS!!

POST 016: GET MESSY WEEK 12

So even though get messy is changing and evolving (check out Lauren and Caylee's blogs for more info) I and many other get messyians have decided to keep up our regular Thursday postings. It's a habit I absolutely love and because I make myself carve out the time for it, my creative soul is happy :) Olsen Marble

Olsen Marble

I think this is one of my favourite pages I've created I a long, long time. This image is everything and teamed with the cut outs and marbled pieces, it just make my eyes happy :)

- collage, potato print & nail varnish marbling

Fragments

This is a collaged piece using a photograph I brought at a vintage fair (there was a bundle and I live them all- is it weird?!) along with magazine imagery, a new home card I received this summer and some final scraps of laser cutting from my uni days! The right hand page was made during a glue shortage so I used acrylic instead.. Works pretty well and I love the blue against the smoggy sky!

- laser cut, collage & acrylic

It's not me, it's you

An homage to Lily Allen. True love.

- ink, watercolour, felt tip, tea stain & collage

Somewhere only we know

These little penguins were from an advert for Austria and I've given them a new home here with a new bird friend and other collaged pieces. I love penguins and it often surprises me that they don't appear more in my sketchbook work!

- collage & watercolour

POST 015: ORGANISED CREATIVITY

Ok, I am not a neat or organised person but, sometimes in life I force myself to be these things out of neccesaty. That and I share my home with a neat person :O

Since my college days I have been collecting (hoarding) magazine pages, fabric and random elements of my work in these orange ring binders.

It always helped when I had a new brief set and now that I have started to create in my sketchbooks / art journals again for the get messy programme, I find myself re discovering the joy of keeping everything neat(ish) and organised in here.
I am a messy worker...

But aren't all creatives?!

I like to think lots of other people are similar to me but let me know in the commentts, also let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions as to how I could organise all of my journaling and art things!

POST 014: NOVEMBER FAVOURITES

This is a classic blogger / vlogger format and I thought I would get involved! November seems to of flown by for me and these are the moments and things that have stood out for me this month...

001: Solange Knowles

I am not a weddings type person but I am completely obsessed with Solange's wedding, and hair, and bike, and husbands gold toed shoes..... TOO COOL

002: Malin + Goetz

This cruelty free cleanser has been in my travel bag since the summer (thank you ELLEUK magazine for the freebie!) and every time I go away I notice how much nicer my skin behaves. It could well become a full sized product purchase soon!

003: The new get messy art journal!

Get Messy is becoming a full-fledged art journaling extravaganza and you're invited to the party! We listened to your emails and comments and the Get Messy that you know and love is growing and evolving into an art journaling program. Get excited. Because we're about to Get Messy.

<3

004: Hometime

This weekend I have been at home with my family (parents, brother, cats) and I am enjoying every bit of lazing around and watching films: Love Actually, The Italian Job, Tangled ..... Is it Christmas yet?!

005: American Horror Story

The freak show series is currently showing in the UK and I LOVE it! My boyfriend recently bought a chrome cast which I have been told means I can now watch Netflix, aka, the other previous series of AHS and complete my transformation as fully fledged uber fan!

Let me know in the comments your November favourites :) :)

POST 013: GET MESSY WEEK 11

This Thursdays #getmessyartjournal is a prompt week. The prompt for November was from the beautiful Andrea! Also, this is the last week of get messy in it's current form... 2015 is a bigger and better year for the group and I'm so excited for it all!!

Journalling challenge: Pick one word that describes you right now. Just one word.
Art challenge: Play with the word you picked. Use letter stickers, cut out your word from magazines and create a collage, write your word a hundred times on a piece of paper and use it as a background, use paint to write your word, … The main focus should be on your word.
The word I chose was strong. It wasn't actually the word I wanted as I think it isn't really a nice word, said or written but, once I thought it... Nothing could shake it! So strong it is, and strong I am.

 Berry Strong

I am a person who will hold everything in until one day I'm weeping over an advert (actually happens) or something equally as lame and the tears are usually from various events that happens months ago but have suddenly somehow overwhelmed me. This is a side effect from being, or at least trying to be, a strong person. I wanted to write the word over and over and over to demonstrate what it's like sometimes in my head!

-  tea stain, washi, spray paint, collage, acrylic, gouache & watercolour (!)

 Strong Highlights

I had created the abstract highlighter pattern a while ago and was waiting for something to fit on the page with it... I chose my word, in ink and I love the free flow of the handwritten word as well as the juxtaposition of a hard word in a soft format. This style of handwriting is very 2014 to me (see our lovely get messy creator Caylee and Anna from Rifle paper Co.) so it's hard not to be inspired by what is around you ;) ! The pages on this are just plain white but when I scanned them into photoshop and dipped the contrast, I got this great textured background which I think adds a kind of grungy feel.

-  highlighter & ink

 Silver Strong

Ah, my one true love, spray paint. The idea for this page and the page below was the kind of inner and outer steel you have as a person. I think everybody is a strong person, in varying ways and some don't even realise there own strength until a crisis appears in life and you have to be strong. I used the silver colour and the stencil cut outs to show the idea of strong on the outside...

-  spray paint on brown paper

.... Strong on the inside. And isn't it beautiful, metallic and uplifting?!

 The World

Every prompt week, we also make two pages as we would any other get messy week. My first page is a little shout out to someone special to me (means the whole world to me) who is going through a bit of a rough time at the moment.

-  collage, gouache & watercolour

Merci !

(Literally) thank you a thousand times

- tea stain, ink, collage, spray paint & washi

POST 011: GET MESSY WEEK 9

A new #getmessyartjournal Thursday has arrived! And although it's officially winter now, my pages this week definetly have an autumnal vibe about them...

Tropical Leopard

I wasn't quite sure where I was going when I started these pages but I love love love the result? An inky, vibrant abstract leopard print that's pretty on trend for pattern right now!

- watercolour on brown paper

Forest Finch

The bird in the middle is a postcard from my pattern box (I'm slowly but surely finding homes for all100!) and as I stuck this to a mulberry advert of the English countryside, the dotted pattern around kind of grew organically.. I had created the right hand side a few weeks before completing the left, which is all watercolour. I knew I needed patience for it and wanted to wait naturally for it to come!

- watercolour, collage & Felt Tip

Circus & Stripes

The postcard on the left is an old treasure of mine, I think I've had it for about 5 years now... It used to live with many others on various walls of various addresses over those years and I'm happy it has a more permanent home now, in my art journal. I've been watching american horror story: freak show this past week and these pages are loosely inspired from that. The glamour and excitement often linked with the circus and carni life.... Maybe soon I can do some freak pages too? I've always been drawn to the more gothic/ creepy/ unsettling subjects.... ;)

- collage, watercolour & silver pen

Magic Forest

I made these pages after receiving a letter in the post (left) which was black with stars all over. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was destined for an art journal home! These pages have a sort if mystical, magical, enchanting feeling to them that I like that extra bit more for being dark and urban...

- collage, acrylic on patterned roller, watercolour, ink & silver pen

POST 010: GET MESSY WEEK 8

Another Thursday (this one is freeeezing!) and another #getmessyartjournal week! Much of this weeks pages were inspired / use elements from the spray painting workshop I went to a few weeks ago at medium in Leeds. I LOVED this workshop and am planning to return soon for some festive craftiness :)

Marble Stripe

The page on the right I had collaged together ages ago when I had a spell of nail varnish marbling and I just couldn't quite complete it... so this week I paired it with strips of spray painted paper and felt tip stripes. I live the kind of beachy, seventies vibe I get from this...

- collage, magazine, marbling, felt tip & spray paint

Stencil Bomb

The left hand page has my stencils on that I created in the medium workshop and the right hand page is one of the pieces I completed there. I didn't want to waste anything I created and this page looks pretty good considering it scraps!

- collage, stencil & spray paint

Spray Painted Silver

This page is just layers and layers of spray paint, with some stencilling thrown in. I am currently completely obsessed with spray paint, I think it's driving my boyfriend nuts...

- spray paint on white paper

White Hot

This is a quote I found last week and really related to so wanted to cement in my journal.

' I began to realise how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be ' Roald Dahl

- acrylic on roller, collage & ink

I hope you have enjoyed the first week of Novembers art journal, check out my Pinterest and Instagram for more crafty inspiration and life titbits from me :) As well as the #getmessyartjournal hashtag across social media to see everyone else's entries!

POST 009: GET MESSY WEEK 7

This weeks #getmessyartjournal is based around the October prompt by the gorgeous Olya (this month is her last get messy entry and she will be missed so much in our little community... dont leave us Olya!!!!) Anyway, the prompt was all about being thankful and expressing that through sketchbook pages with visual aids to really show what you are grateful for! This was a pretty big challenge for me, I seem to struggle a bit when it comes to personal pages but... I'm trying!

F R E E D O M

With all you see in the news and media, I often feel very lucky to be a women living in the UK in 2014 and much of this has to do with freedom. This picture sums up it all.... I wanted to keep the pages neutral and free (see what I did there?) from too much fuss so you focus on the photograph and text.

- collage, marker pen & highlighter

Thankful Brights

I wanted this page to be a real rainbow and to also demonstrate the things I AM thankful for in my everyday life

- watercolour, ink, salt, bleach & collage

With freedom, books, flowers and the moon.. Who couldn't be happy?
Oscar Wilde

- ink, watercolour & spray paint

Out of the Woods

This card was given to me a couple of years go for my birthday from my friend Lauren and I held onto it since then as I loved it so much! Now that I've made this page all I think of when I see it is 'are we out of the woods yet, out of the woods yet, out of the woods...' because i am a Taylor Swift obsessive.. #1989 !!

Peppermint & Brick

I tea stained these pages with peppermint tea (a nice alt to English breakfast in colour!) I like the sepia, vintage feel of this page, I ran out of print stick so relied heavily in Sellotape but I'm quite fond of the effect it gives :)

And that's it for another get messy week!
I've also been taking part in Fat Mum Slim #photoaday this month on instagram and I'm a little sad it's over tomorrow... The November prompts look pretty good though so it could be on the cards for another month! :)

As always, check out my fellow participants from our awesome group! And make sure you go to Lauren's Blog today as we will all be linking up over there for the prompt!

POST 008: GET MESSY WEEK 6

This weeks #getmessyartjournal is all about autumn! The rich colours, the fallen leaves, the crunch and the fresh crisp air. I'm actually starting to enjoy autumn a bit now, which is annoying as this weekend the clocks go back (nooooo!) and it's pretty much darkness from then until March. Gah!

Anyways, back to the autumnal art!

Colour Crush

This page is a real throwback to my uni days, it's a mix of ink, bleach & water and salt. I LOVE the effect that you can get from grinding salt over wet ink and in these colour stripes, I'm reminded of real old school sweets.. Fizzy and sour... Anyone else? No? Ok... ;)

(The little flash of city scape is from the page before and I like that it's just saying hey)

Organised Chaos

Aka, the story of my life... Apart from the bit about being organised... This is watercolour on brown sketchbook paper. I like he repetition and the un-even ness of the shapes as they are all hand painted. I'm also all over the warmth from the colours on the pages.

Leaves & Spray Paint

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I'm all about autumn right now and I knew I wanted to do something with leaves before I'm stuck in the dead of winter and regretting it! I had these leaves for a while in my sketchbook but could quite decide what I wanted to do with them exactly... A few weeks ago I covered them in PVA but that was as far as I had gotten with any sort of creativity. So, this weekend I spray painted them! I like the silver on them as it adds a shimmer and slight magical element and the orange is like autumn on acid! The leaves are now framed and in my spare bedroom and I'm left with a nice, abstract, negative leaf print from the spray painting.
Winning!

A short but sweet #getmessyartjournal entry this week! next week is our prompt week as it's the end of the month and I'm really excited to share what I have been creating for it! :)

As always, check out my fellow participants from the awesome group!

POST 007: GET MESSY WEEK 5

Hello another fabulous creative #getmessyartjournal Thursday!

Furry Stripe Pink

This is a little scrappy collage I made from odds and ends that I couldn't find a home for, but liked too much to throw away! The right hand image is from my session of marbling using nail varnish. It worked so well and was quite addictive actually! Possibly down to my ridiculous collection of nail varnishes .....

He for She

A few weeks late, perhaps, but non the less still relevant. I was, like so many, inspired greatly by the speech Emma Watson gave on feminism. I have always been a feminist, was raised in a gender equal household and even wrote my university dissertation on the impact feminism has had on the fashion industry. I hope Emma's speech inspires many more people and shine a light on what it is to be a feminist in 2014. It isn't just for women, it isn't man haters and it isn't an outdated or unnecessary cause. Go Emma! He for She!

Collage Mountain

This page is a little gothic, a little sci fi, a little mix and match.. It started just with the pink spray paint and then evolved once I added in the collaged section on the left. They all ended up monochromatic and looked to me, like mountains. I then added in the inky 'moons' which is when this pages took a strange science fiction turn... It's probably not what most people will see when they look at this and I like the idea of it representing different things to different people. Like all art, really!

Paint & PVA

I'm always a fan of a ink splatter, abstract, Jackson Pollock page. I'm not a massive lover of red (in design - elsewhere I'm kinda obsessed.. Red hair, red clothes etc) but I thought I'd try it out here for a change.. I also used PVA glue on this page just to get a little shine and different texture. I'm kinda in love with this page and am considering doing a series, in all different colours... Watch this space!

This week has been very autumnal and I definitely feel like snuggling down for winter and preferably  hibernating.. Failing that, I'll see you all again for next weeks pages.. If not before!

As always, please, please check out the other #getmessyartjournal participants!
