POST 21: GET MESSY WEEK 12

Our latest prompts from get messy have been my absolute favourite since I started the programme.. !

Challenge #1:

Journal prompt: If I were queen...

Art Prompt: Make your own stamp to create a background for your royal decrees. Use anything you can find and dip it in paint or ink or make a reusable stamp

If I were queen... my ruling would be pets in the workplace
(specifically cats but I will settle for greyhounds too...)

My stamp is made from a cut out in cardboard and I gouached the little black and white fur through this. I wanted to emphasise the joy, security, familiarity and happiness you get from pets and animals which I why I chose bright rainbow prints to surround the cats! ^_^

- gouache & felt tip

Challenge #2
Journal prompt: Make a blackout poem like Austin Kleon does (see his work and examples here) using a magazine article, newspaper, an old book page or any other writings you can find.
Art prompt: If your blackout poem doesn't cover your entire page, paint a background by using a splatter technique with a paintbrush. Load up water and paint on your brush, hold the brush above your page, then tap the brush with your other hand to create random splatters of paint.

My poem reads:

imagination is the bright white life you love

It almost makes sense and I quite like that aspect of it. It's not quite there, not quite complete and a little lost. I think this all goes with it's aesthetics of being a blackout poem. This was an absolute joy to create.. I really thought about it and it felt strangely threaputic to black out the rest of the article. I plan to do many more!

POST 19: GET MESSY WEEK 11

Today I am sharing my first get messy prompts of 2015!

Challenge #1:Journal prompt: Choose one word to sum up this past year. Write it, stamp it, type it boldy. Add no explanation, your word will speak for itsself.  Art Prompt: Use a full page from a magazine as your background for your word.

My word was 'responsible'. I feel like 2014 was a year I grew up, half from choice and half from necessity! I wanted my pages to reflect my own pride and positivity at this change as well as the overwhelming sense of being a real-life grown up.. which I think I am now.. eeek!

- magazine, highlighter & ink

Challenge #2Journal prompt: Set one crazy bucketlist goal for yourself this year. Choose one thing, that if you really work and plan for, you can accomplish that is so far outside your norm it scares you a little. Go skydiving, ride an elephant, get a tattoo.  Art prompt: Find photos, words, etc to represent your goal and get you excited about it! Make 2015 the year you surprised yourself with your own bravery!

2015 is set to be a real adventurous year for me - I am going to Japan in May, have plans to explore my home neighbourhood of Norfolk and also my current living county of Yorkshire. I also want to fit in a few European city breaks at the end of the year, just to see as much as I can! I like that my 2014 is set to be almost opposite of my responsible 2014 ;)

POST 18: GET MESSY CHRISTMAS PROMPTS

So although Christmas was 2 weeks ago (feels like years) I have only just found time to finish and upload my #getmessyartjournal Christmas Prompts!

Challenge #1:
Journal prompt: Choose a quote that represents your view on the holidays or sums up this years holiday season and add it to your page.
Art Prompt: Use a quintessential photo of this holiday season that best depicts your quote. Bonus points if you create a hand painted background.

I made this whilst watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' on TV on actual Christmas Eve and just felt so lovely and festive and happy.. I think it comes across in the pages and I like that every time I see this, I get that warm cosy Christmassy feeling

Challenge #2
Journal prompt: Holidays are hard for many reasons, but they are also tender, funny and memorable. Write a quick story about an unusual moment from this holiday season that you want to remember.
Art prompt: Use leftover wrapping paper, cards, receipts, gift tags, etc to support your story and create a background for your page.

The background here is tissue paper I got a present wrapped in from my boyfriends mum and I was obsessed with it! It looks like Hundreds & Thousands, as well as pure joy! I also added this little robin tag, which I used in my gift wrapping and just enjoyed his little face :) My Candy Stamp that the lovely Cody Doll sent me was perfect for these pages, the story I chose was having my grandmothers blackcurrant crumble on boxing day. My Grandma is my favourite person on this earth and her crumble tastes like childhood. She hasn't made it for years because her health can be bad, so it was a surprise and my favourite memory from the holidays :)
