GET MESSY 2016 | LISTS | WEEK 4

Welcome to my favourite week of the season so far..

15 & 16 This season, I'm proud of
- ink & pen

I shared list 15 last week  but thought I'd show it again, in it's double spread form.
We were prompted to think about what we were most proud of and I took this as an opportunity for self indulgence. As a British person, I think we are often quick to undersell ourselves so list 16 was a really nice one to illustrate.

I know my lists aren't a lot of the time "lists" as they just have one point but... they're mine.

17 & 18 Books I love, In six months
- collage, pen, ink & acrylic

I am a pretty avid book reader, I have been since I was young and my mum encouraged me to read to help with my spelling. It defiently helped and I fell in love with it quickly. My favourite books are ones I can and will read again as well as being ones that tie me to a certain period in my life and fill me with memories.

As for in six months, well, I'll be married. I'll have a new name and I think I'll still be loving that background of pink ombre <3

19 & 20 What I love about art, Gratitude
- ink & pen

Pretty self explanatory and look! A real list!

COLOR CHAOS | WHITE

I can't believe how quickly we're getting through these journals! I just finished and sent of to London this white journal. I am a big lover of white and neutrals, it's a nice contrast in my brain to my usual insane colours.

Color Chaos is a collaborative project involving me and 6 other art journallers. The participants are:

 Lauren
Karen
Sharon

We each started a journal in a specific colour and it gets sent around the world to each participant to continue that colour theme. My own journal is black and this white one is Patricia's.

- collage & highlighter

- collage & label maker

The tags were already on this page, I added the envelope with the love note in from wolf to moon.

- collage, ink & sharpie

Because every journal needs a feminist rant inside somewhere ;)

- collage

This skiing lady was in the pre sent white epherma that came with the journal. I thought she belonged quite happily  here.

- collage

A tiny addition to Vanessa's page

And some pages for people to add to....

This song is my anthem

GET MESSY 2016 | LISTS | WEEK 3

 Week 3!

11. Right Now
- collage, washi & pen

Spring time in Britain can mean snow, hail, blistering sun and clouds. Usually in one day. I am so eager for it to happen though, I need some vitamin D urgently! Last weekend we helped a bumblebee out of hibernation with some sugar water so I think that's a real sign that it's here!

12. Magic
- ink, tea & collage

I may of stolen some lyrics from Ricky Martin on this page - no shame.
Now that we have actual daylight again I want to try and take more in progress / just finished shots. As much as I love a good scan, I find these kind of images are more interesting and personal.

13 & 14 Things to try, Call me
- acrylic, highlighter & pen

Being overambitious and doodling my name over and over..

15. This Season
- collage, acrylic

This says it all really. And that gold ombre.. <3

ZINE SQUAD | HOME

The Zine Squad strikes again! This time, we "zined" fellow get messy creative team member, Nina.
The zine was themed around home and it turned out beautifully.

Home is when I'm alone with you!
- felt tips, stamps & pen

I tried to co-ordiante my page (right side) with the colours on the left. They're lovely and warm, super cosy and homely. I took the lyrics from this song and made a watercolour-y background using felt tips and water. I love the simplicity of this page which is a more unusual style for me.

Home & Heart
- felt tips & pen

My anatomical heart on the left is sliiiightly in accurate due to my drawing skills, but you get the point!

Home Bird
- collage, washi & pen

This was my favourite page, I had a bit too much fun animating the birds!

The collaborators for this zine were:

GET MESSY 2016 | LISTS | WEEK 2

Week 2 of Messy Lists. I am enjoying this season so much more than I had anticipated. I have started to create quite minimal (for me!) pages and I like a new way of approaching my journal. We are given each week a list of list prompts and a list of journalling prompts, it's the way in which we all pair these differently that is the most interesting, I think.

6. When I grow up
- acrylic & label maker

I would like to be able to say I am a real artist - I can say I am a designer (day job) but owning the title of artists is so much harder. Especially when I don't draw.

7. Loves of my life
- highlighters & pen

I tried to make this a really long list but ran out of things. A capsule love lists can't be a bad thing though.

8 & 9 What I've learnt, Superpower
- collage, pen, acrylic & ink

The illustrations on the left are from my 2015 diary that I never really got aorund to using. I am the same every year with paper diaries, I get enchanted by them and then they just collect dust. this one I loved and I'm starting to rip it up so that the drawings get a new lease of life!
On the right is a page dediacted to being a witch. this is a superpower I have always dreamt of having because I grew up in the 90's surrounded by cool witches. Sabrina, especially was my ultimate teen icon. I brought some boots just the other day that make me feel cool and witchy as well. I just freaking love it.

10. I want to go

I love to travel and to explore and after visiting Japan last year, my bucket list of destinations is more open. I had coveted Japan for years so visiting was a real dream come true and I defiently want to travel more of Asia. I also just want to travel in general though. See everything!

GET MESSY 2016 | ANIKA'S CHALLENGE

This week, Anika from the Get Messy Creative Team issued us all a challenge. To take the worksheet below and fill it out. The idea is to see everyone's different responses through a common source. Sort of like visual aided prompts.

I kind of destroyed my worksheet....

 - Be

 - Listen , Feel

- Make, Write

- Thank

I started by printing off multiples of each sheet and then I cut them each up differently, stuck them into my sketchbook, added text and some doodles. I kept them all black and white but once I scanned them in, decided some colour was needed!

I'm really eager to see what everyone else has done with there's.. and if there are any other rebellious people like me who have cut it up! We have a link up on the get messy site, but if you're not a member (which you totally should be) you can look at peoples responses via instagram using #getmessyartcollective or check out the posts below by these wonderful people who I know are taking part:

Vanessa
Emily
Katie
Karen

GET MESSY 2016 | LISTS | WEEK 1

We have a new get messy season! Get Messy has teamed up with 30 days of lists to create this season, messy lists. It's a combination of art and list prompts that can be mixed and matched to whatever way suits you.

I'm not particularly a "lister" by nature so this season will be a challenge for me, which I am looking forward to!

Also, seems like I was on a bit of a bird kick this week..

1. I am the best at
- collage

Some things I missed off this list; breakfast making, opinions, colour, drinking copious amounts of tea..

2, 3 & 4. Lessons learnt, This colour makes me feel, Sacrifices
- collage & felt tips

On the left, a list of lessons learnt. The doodles are all made with my non dominant hand (left). This was eye opening for me because I like to believe I am ambidextrous. I'm not, I'm really not.
The doodles are also all in yellow, my favourite and most happy colour. It's really that simple, it just makes me happy :)
The right hand collage is about having chosen to start my career after University, rather than travelling. It's a sacrifice I went into willingly and still stand by but it's also one that surprised me. I always thought I would take a gap year or go backpacking, but when the time came it just didn't sit right with me and I embarked on a different adventure of graduate work!

5. Mysteries to explore
- ink & marker pen

I would definetly describe myself as agnostic. I'm kind of on the fence about everything until it's proven. I'm dubious about a lot of things just because I think we don't know. And I'm OK with not knowing. This quote is adapted from Educating Yorkshire and every time I look at it, it makes me grin.

DAILY MOLESKINE 2016 | MARCH

March is always a good month for me because you start to see more daylight and life in the world! I am a real summer enthusiast and the arrival of spring is always something I yearn for.

This month I definitely used more colour in my pages and really got back into collage. Enjoy the pages below and I'll see you in May for April's round up!
