GET MESSY 2016 | INTROSPECTION | WEEK 3

This week I just wanted to get out some paint and play! I love this kind of practise as it reminds me of being a child and really brings me a lot of joy. With my travelling for the last week or so, I think I really missed literally getting my hands dirty.

My World
- acrylic & pen

This is my world as created from an ink blot. I used this technique for this page too but with ink only. Acrylic gives you a real texture and tactile element. I'll be living here in the colours and patterns whilst this whole brexit thing goes on.. heh

The love for acrylic was real this week ...

Nothing is real
- acrylic & collage

When I think of introspection, I also think of imagination because that is what lives inside of my brain. I am fascinated by the way our brains work and how everyone perceives events differently from one another. This is what this spread represents, how nothing can ever be real because everything is all perspective.

Self Improvement
- collage, pen & photoshop

Self improvement is a constant thing and I think as beings, we are (or should be) constantly evolving and trying to better ourselves. When I was away last weekend my friend told me about something she read, that only 2% of people are truly kind and giving. Selfless and honest. We all decided that I was borderline until I didn't give a child my wedding favour tic tacs and that made me a non 2-percenter! This is now my new goal, to be a 2 percenter and to work on myself as if it were an art form.

ZINE SQUAD | ABSTRACT

We recently surprised the queen of abstract pattern Kate with her own zine!
Kate is one of my favourite artists who participates in get messy, I love her free style and use the pages she creates as a constant source of inspiration. It was so much fun to work on this zine for her.
I made the base and the first pages so am really eager to see the complete thing! We are all sharing what we pages are ours on our blogs today, so check out the other participants, linked below.

Cover
- felt tips & pen

I created the base pattern and the quote for the cover. I don't know if it is just one person who added to this (Vanessa?!) or if everyone added something but it's looking truly abstract now, in its final form.

Left Page (mine)
- acrylic paint

Last summer I watched the get messy intro to art journalling creative bug class and this technique demonstrated by Caylee (I think) changed my little art world! You put down splodges of paint and then use an old credit or store card to drag it over the paper. I loved the effect, especially when layered up as I have here. The collage on the right I am guessing is by Sarah (??!)

Right Page Background (mine)
- ink

The galaxy girl on the left is all Katie and I think V might have added the text over my golden inky pattern

Neon Collage
- collage

My page on the left is a simple collage incorporating my favourite colour combination of green and pink

Washi
- washi tape

Anything abstract isn't complete until I've washi taped over it!

GET MESSY 2016 | INTROSPECTION | WEEK 2

I am travelling this week so again, relying on a scheduled post!

I am really enjoying this new season, I find getting into my own head easy but translating it into art intentionally more difficult. Having my own art room (!!!!) in my new house has helped though. It's in the attic, really light and I can hear birds so quite idyllic and very different to using my coffee table, which was what I was used to in the old house. I can also get over some of my creative space jealousy that I had when looking at other peoples set ups!

Negatives
- collage, sharpie & stamps

We were prompted to think of our negative attributes and make a positive collage from them. I find my negative points quite easy to point out as they are things I am either constantly working on (impatientnce, selfishness, dyslexia, vanity) or things pointed out to me from others (blunt, insualr, stubbon). I love my mixed up collage and I used my fingerprints as little stamps too !

Overwhelm
- collage & pen

I made this collage from the left over parts of the first one. I am feeling quite overwhelmed right now with all aspects of life and this seem to represent me right now - call it a self portrait!

When you know
- ink, collage & washi

When drawing myself, I draw myself a lot of the times with ears or tails (fox, tiger, lion) and especially with whiskers. I am all in to spirit animals and like to pull my own in my portraits. As basic as they are! I was thinking here about moments in my life so far when I have turned a different path to my peers and there were too many to focus on just one so I made a page about just  knowing.
I included moons because I am a slow reactor to life, it takes me a few months to really absorb things so I wanted a nod to time and reflection as well.

I'm really enjoying enough daylight to take pictures for my blog rather than scanning every time!

GET MESSY 2016 | INTROSPECTION | WEEK 1

We are in our first week of get messy's season of introspection. Last week I blogged about my nerves for this season but in reality, I loved creating these first pages and they came to me easily. Lets hope it's a theme that'll continue!

Art
- collage, ink, acrylic & pen

I come back to pages like this constantly because it's what I make when I'm not thinking. I was writing about the freedom of art and the luxury I have to create.

You
- ink & collage

My spirit animal is a fox. I deciphered this from seeing one a few years ago in my garden and it looked into my soul. I kid you not. This page is dedicated to my fox friend that day.

Heart
- collage & ink

I am using up an illustrated diary from 2015 by a German artist I have since regrettably forgotten the name of! The drawing on the left (to me) is like meeting yourself again and being comforted by you. I think there is something so powerful about the idea that you rescue you and the inner you can take care of the outer you.

I can't wait to see how everyone else tackles this season, please check out the get messy blog and insta for more art and inspiration!

GET MESSY 2016 | BEFORE INTROSPECTION

Our new get messy season (starting next week) is Introspection. This is a season I am looking forward to with anticipation because when I art journal, I often miss out the "journal" part. I find sharing parts of myself difficult, as well as even looking inwards a bit of a challenge as well as very indulgent and not to mention, scary (!)

I have dedicated this post to my most personal pages so far that I have created since I started the get messy programme. It's a push for myself to see how much further I can take this practise of art therapy as well as a friendly hint to myself that I am able to do it.
