GET MESSY 2016 | WEEK 30

This week has been crazy - I am so busy right now that these few hours I took to create and draw in my art journal were pure escapism.

Home & Houses
- ink, gouache, tracing paper, pen, felt tip & label maker

I made this page in response to seeing my family back in Norfolk last weekend. my granddad (jokingly) asked if I would come and move in with him and my Grandma to help out around the house. He said "but you wouldn't like that, would you" I said "I'd like it too much actually, it'd be so easy"

The thing with living far away from these people, who are so dear to me is that every time I leave it is ridiculously difficult. I want to live in my grandparents house and talk about cats and the church and allotments but i can't because I have to pursue the other things in my life that give me joy and purpose - that frustratingly aren't where they are. It's a constant battle with myself, that I think anyone who lives away from friends and family will understand. It's not a simple choice and leaving is never easy.

TIlted
- felt tips & pen

Just call me Lauren Pearl - i too am obsessed with Christine and the Queens. I'm also pretty obsessed with these blooms!

Trouble
ink, gouache, tracing paper, pen, felt tip & washi

A few months ago I watched the film Amy, about Amy Winehouse, her life and music. I was writing down lyrics and quotes as i watched the film and now i am starting to fill these in as pages. the girl is traced because i truly suck at drawing people !

GET MESSY 2016 | WEEK 29

We are in our in-between stages of get messy seasons but I like to keep up my weekly habit of creating. I like these weeks between each season to stretch my individual creativity and prepare for a new theme. Below are some quick, non-prompted pages from this week.

Selfish
- felt tips, marker pen & pen

Creative
- ink, collage & label maker

This page was inspired by Torrie's post on creativity that was part of our recent get messy creative team blog hop. There was also a chance to win a subscription to get messy, so if you have been thinking about joining, the blog hop is a perfect opportunity!

Creative
- ink, collage & label maker

I die for these colours! I thought this page was complete but then added the broken make text for some weight.

GET MESSY BLOG HOP | ART JOURNALLER CRUSHES

Welcome to the get messy art journal creative team blog hop! Today we are all posting at the same time and linking to each other. We're also giving away one annual membership to get messy (!!) To enter, leave a comment on every blog that you visit through the hop. The more comments you leave, the higher your chance of winning. The winner will be announced on the 23rd July. I've linked the next person on in the sequence at the end of this post, I hope you enjoy it and good luck if you're entering!

A few weeks ago a question from Caylee was put to the get messy group on Facebook (where we chat and help one another out). Caylee wanted to know who we were crushing and loving currently, who was inspiring our art journalling. Who's work do we look at and instantly want to get creative. This is my current love lust list...

1. Kate - Abstract obsession

I feel like every time I see Kate's work, I fall more in love with her style. She literally is my abstract obsession and inspiration. When I look at Kate's work, I feel like my eyes grow to see it all. The colours, the shapes, the emotion... abstract is my favourite kind of art and Kate executes it perfectly, every time!

2. Vanessa - Queen of Journalling

I have been an uber Vanessa fan for forever. There is something about her deeply personal and reactive pages that make me want to get more into the journal side of art journalling. It's a scary prospect, to lay yourslef so bare but Vanessa makes it seem easy and natural. Also helps that her pages are always so beautifully layered and presented.

3. Haley - Pattern inspiration

Haley is my number 1 person for seeing something and jumping up to get my art supplies. If you are not aware of this girl yet, you need to be! An absolute art journallers dream crush (and super cool person as well!)

4. Elizabeth - What I made series

I have been loving Elizabeth for a while now. I love her art almost as much as her dog Clark and her writing. Elizabeth writes in a way that makes you feel like her friend (so relatable and easy to read) and her art is expressive, beautiful and open. Hers is a blog I frequent often, hoping for creative updates!

5. Torrie and Sarah -  Mini art journals

Torrie

Sarah

I often feel hemmed in and restricted by art journals and sketchbooks, I love creating on scraps of paper and long to do some giant abstract art. This is probably why I am fascinated and enthralled by the mini journals made by Torrie and Sarah. Just - stunning.

6. Talulah Fontaine - Illustrate Life

Talulah's style is one I really covet. It's not really art journalling, more illustrations but I find them very inspiring. Through her use of colour and the emotion that is projected.

7. Busy Weekends - collage me crazy

I adore the collage style of this get messy newcomer. Collage is one of my favourite mediums and I love to see how other people use ephemera and lay out their pages.

8. Riet - Fearless colour

Every time I look through the #getmessyartjournal tag on instagram I always find myself drawn to Riet's pages! I love her bold use of colour and fearless style.

GET MESSY 2016 | INTROSPECTION | WEEK 6

It's our last week of Introspection! I've really enjoyed this season, but was very busy and preoccupied for most of it. I'm looking forward to our few weeks off from prompts, to really delve into the get messy blog and catch up on tutorials and other peoples work that I know I've missed. This season was also exciting for me because my get messy interview went up! A few months ago, I chatted with Lauren and Caylee (creators of Get Messy Art Journal) about how I came to start art journalling and all things fun and creative. It was a great experience and something I'd love to re-visit and continue doing. I am really passionate about most things in life, art and creativity being one of my most favourite things to discuss!

Anyway, this weeks pages..

Plus ca change
- acrylic, ink & collage

I love this quote and what it represents. it also feels very telling for my life, right now. The white acrylic over the ink was supposed to represent movement and speed but my boyfriend said it reminded him of pebbles under a stream, which I can also get on board with!

Change
- ink & collage

Essentially the same theme. I am obsessed with this ink splatter. It is perfect!

Shhhh
- washi, ink & collage

A little collage from a brochure about lush spa's. Also, a perfect way to end the season of introspection, with a bit of calm.

GET MESSY 2016 | INTROSPECTION | WEEK 5

I made all of these pages in an hour between having my tea and doing yoga. I love creating a a rush like this and they are all collages which gives you an idea of my speed!

My Thoughts
- collage & marker pen

This is literally how I feel about my thoughts. I find that things slip from my mind and I dart around very quickly. I also suffer from that thing of saying something, but then never being able to write that thought down or even articulate it again once the moment has passed. i wish I could be more literate as I think this would help manage all of my thoughts. As a result I live in a world of half written notes, emails and texts. I blame this on being dyslexic, when I was "officially" diagnosed I was told that managing thoughts, ideas and time poorly was a part of having dyslexia. It's annoying but I'm happy with my visual representation of that feeling in this page.

 Intuition
- collage, felt tips & marker pen

We were prompted this week to think about intuition, specifically women's. I think that although I spend a lot of time in my head and feel like my intuitive side lives in me as a care giver and guide, that this is nothing to do with gender. I think we are prescribed to believe women's intuition exits more then men's just through socialistic ideals and stereotypes.

Pippi
- collage, felt tips & marker pen

I wanted this image in our introspection season because it made me think of the constant balancing act that is life. For me, living inside myself and also outside, like a normal person, is a juggling act.

She / Us
- collage, felt tips & ink

A feminist page just for good measure!

Women
- collage

And another!

COLOR CHAOS | BLUE

We're almost finished our color chaos project! It's strange because we anticipated it would take us the whole year so to be done in just 7 months is exciting and crazy. I currently have the gold journal, as my last, but I'm showing you the blue pages I made today. I felt like I didn't have this journal very long so I tried to be really proactive and add little bits often to it. This has resulted in not many finished pages made by me, but a lot of additions on others! I handed it over to Lauren last weekend (in person!!) and once she has worked her magic, it will be finished.

This is our landing page for the well travelled blue journal! It arrived with me 10.06.16.

I added the spitfire image, a vintage inspired spread would be so cool!

Some textiles from elle decoration..

I filled in the spaces left from collage with some felt tipped triangles

Sail away with me honey..

I loved this collage on the left and added the blue textile for a tactile element

This was my only full page spread! I wrote about tea leaves and how to tell fortunes with them. Something I would love to try, very Professor Trelawney.

The mermaid on the left was so I saw in Lisbon last year <3

Acrylic ink spoltches

Ink for days

Felt tipped lines

My favourite method!

This was a little magazine pop out..

More textile images from elle dec

I added the flip image of chicago at night to Vanessa's explore pages

Mosiac / collage

Pretty much a representation of how my brain felt whilst I had this journal!

Color Chaos is a collaborative project involving me and 6 other art journallers. The participants are:

 Lauren (Lilac)
Karen (Blue)
Vanessa (Gold)
Sharon (Red)
Patricia (White)
Katie (Pink)

We each started a journal in a specific colour and it gets sent around the world to each participant to continue that colour theme. My own journal is black and this blue one is Karen's.
