ZINE SQUAD | CIRCUS

Another week, another zine! This time the squad made a zine for the lovely Essie. This feels like ages ago because Essie is Australian so the zine took a good three weeks from England to get there. The fear that it had gone to postal heaven was real!

I was the last person to work on the zine, so I have added a lot of doodles and small elements to many of the pages, I just can't resist!

Front cover - by Katie (?)

My page on the left, I used a quote from AHS:Freak show because when we first thought of the circus theme, I thought of that show! I also thought it would work well with the creepy looking bird on the right The tickets were already collaged on when I recieved the zine, they add a cool extra element to my big top illustration.

I added the daggered heart and fortune telling text onto this left page, it makes me think of the opening animation for the series "love" as well as sinister premonitions and tarot cards..

I collaged on this lost girl on the left. I was thinking of wizard of oz type situations...

My double spread - lyrics by the editors

Of course, T-Swift is all my doing!

These pages were pretty much complete, I just added some extra stamps by the elephant to really fill it up

I was still in my wizard of oz ideas when I made the page on the left, to live next to Katie's (?) elephant on the right

The fox and the words on the elft are mine, I think the page on the right is by Vanessa?

I added the doodles around elvis and then the page on the right is where we all sign off!

ZINE SQUAD | ARTIST

Our latest zine squad victim was Misty!

We made Misty an Artist themed zine and it was such a cool theme to work on. Vanessa made the base and then I was second in line so I can't wait to check out what the other participants (linked below) created!

Front Cover
- collage, highlighters & ink

I used this Picasso quote over an image of an artists studio for the cover. Katie then kindly outlined my text with her neon gel pens - I knew as soon as I started writing that it'd be too dark but didn't have anything light enough to fix it! Obviously I need some more stationery ..

The felt tipped stripes on the left hand side are mine

My addition here is the quote by Hannah Horvath with ink splatter on the right

The acrylic paint splodge in the middle is mine. I love how it has been added to! I think this was worked on by Clare..?!

The half page on the left is mine. It's a mix of felt tips and collage. I also put on the post-it with quote and love that it stayed in a page. I knew it would fir nicely in the theme of this zine but was unsure where.

GET MESSY 2016 | HABIT | WEEK 32

As a committed habit maker of get messy, I make pages and post them every week. Even when we are in between themed seasons, which we are now.

I made all of these pages at the beginning of this week when I had a crafty afternoon with a close friend of mine, who has just signed up to be part of the get messy programme!

I usually create alone so it was really nice having someone with me for a change. I am hoping she'll get as into get messy as I am, then we will have lots of messy Mondays to follow!

No real theme for my pages this week, just happily creating things on my attic floor :)

GET MESSY 2016 | MUSIC | WEEK 6

This is the last post for season of music! This season has flown by, I have often been late with my pages as life has been insane recently. This is annoying that I have less time to art journal but also means that the moments I can steal to do it, are pure solace for me.

This week I focused on my first love, collage and what silence looks like in my mind.

Beam
- collage & pen

Books and Bed
- collage & washi

Stripe
- collage & washi

Wide Awake
- collage & washi

As a shout out to my fellow messians, these are the artists who (in my own opinion) have KILLED this season

GET MESSY 2016 | MUSIC | WEEK 5

This week I went back to the oh comely magazine I have been using as an art journal and put all my pages in there. I love using magazines as journals - they are so quick and easy to do! No looking around for suitable imagery and also the articles can be inspiring and push your thoughts to new places.

The issue of oh comely that I have been using is all about sisterhood. I don't have a sister myself, so a lot of my pages this week are dedicated to my girl gang.

- collage & marker pen

I wrote before about my love for the illustrator Tallulah Fontaine so I was crazy happy to see her work throughout this edition of oh comely. Living away from my closest friends, communication is imporatnt but also really difficult. I'm lucky to have people around me who understand this and who can just pick up where we left of - even if it's been months since we last touched base.

- tombows, marker pen & collage

Teenage rebellion and life long friends

Sisterhood
- tombows, marker pen & collage

- washi, marker pen & collage

Ring
- washi, collage & marker pen

About You
- washi, tombows, collage & marker pen

We were prompted this week (a prompt by me actually!) to respond to something we had recently read in the news. I made these two last pages about the diver who was proposed to at the Olympics. I thought this was a selfish and sexist act. It really irritated me and made me feel angry. This article here explains it perfectly for me. I can't understand how marriage is seen as achievement for a woman - or anyone,
