DECEMBER VIBES | A FESTIVE CHALLENGE

Last year Vanessa and I took part in our own December daily photo challenge. We used a list of prompts found on pinterest and were accountable to each other, posting an image every day under #jandvdodecember. We wanted to do the same thing this year, but created our own prompt list and invite others to join in! It's a fun, festive photo prompt list... let us know if you're playing along by using the hashtag #decembervibes

ART JOURNAL | A SCANDINAVIAN ADVENTURE

I blogged last month about my trip to Scandinavia and am so happy that I now have finished my art journal that I developed whilst on the adventure!

I took two small journals with me, collected a ton of ephemera and then compiled them all once I was home. I used a tiny accordion moleskine journal for the final incarnation. It is the first time I have used this type of journal and I loved it. I think I might be hooked!

These are my favourite pages...

This was my first travel journal I have really completed. I always bring back scraps of paper to work into my art but I have never solely created a journal around one trip before. I like that there aren't any of my own images in it, I think it's a weird bridge between personal / non personal.

I would love any tips for travel journalling, I am thinking about taking Lauren's course on travelling like an artist... My Christmas course list is growing!!!

GET MESSY 2016 | MORNING PAGES

This week I have been crazy busy, so I made all my get messy pages in the mornings before I went to work.

This was a bit of a revelation for me as I wasn't able to complete anything in one go. They all took 3 days (mornings) to create in total. I usually hate doing this sort of thing, I am an all or nothing, quick creator but I found returning to the same page a day later quite refreshing. I used the same "recipe" for each page as well, so they hang really nicely together.

A City
- acrylic, collage & label maker

I don't want to know
- acrylic, collage & washi

Rummaging
- acrylic, collage & label maker

A few weeks ago, I saw that Torrie had posted a picture of her kitchen towel scraps. I have kept this piece from when I took part in inktober and I didn't know what to do with it - just that I loved it. So inspired by Torrie, I'll be making some scrap journal pages with it for sure!

DAILY MOLESKINE 2016 | AUTUMN

September was a hectic month for me (my best friend got married, I got married and then had an amazing honeymoon) so I've been playing eternal catch up in my moleskine diary. Here is Autumn...

The moleskine is so fat now, I'm not sure how I'll be able to complete November and December without pre-creating somewhere flat and then collaging in!

GET MESSY 2016 | ART JOURNAL LIVE!

This week Clare and Vanessa  both hosted get messy live Facebook sessions. I started off this mini series and blogged about it and my pages here

This week, i journalled in my daily moleskine whilst watching Clare and then played along with Vanessa's art journal game! I was asleep when this was originally live, so played catch-up the next evening. We were given a series of steps by V and were able to watch her take on these steps whilst making our own pages. Mine are below...

Shatter
- acrylic, collage, gold paint & felt tip

Reinvent
- acrylic, collage, gold paint, washi & felt tip

Kill the king
- acrylic, collage, gold paint, washi & felt tip

During the live broadcast, Vanessa was mentioning the recent elections in the US and whilst not being American (like myself) how it had affected her, as a woman. Naturally, these elements flowed into my pages too and I used lyrics from Christine and the queens as my text. They seemed to fit just right.

Tell me
- ink, collage & tombows

A page I made before the game started! I am still venting about life things that put me out of sync recently. Mainly to do with my identity and career.

Art always helps!

PINK ZINE | GET MESSY COLLAB

A few months ago, Tlee asked on Instagram if anyone would like to collaborate on a pink! zine with her. I thought it sounded like a fun mini project, so put myself forward. Being half way around the world from one another, waiting for the post was near torture but the zine is now finished and we can share our pages !

GET MESSY 2016 | DREAMS | WEEK 6

Our last week of season of dreams!

It's busy in my mind
- acrylic, collage & ink

When it rains, it pours. For me this past week has been full of news I just did not want to hear. The American election results included (!!!!!!!) Making a paint heavy page with strong colours and scratchy mono prints really helped me.

Nightmare
- acrylic & collage

As I have mentioned before this season, i often have nightmares, lucid dreams or just negative ones. For some reason my unconscious seems to go dark - or maybe they're just the ones I remember more?
I tried out Riet's marbling technique for my ethereal nightmare spread, I think I made my paint too liquidy but really loved this approach and will try again! You basically mix some paints and pour them into one another on the page. Riet makes such beautiful art this way, i was desperate to give it a try myself!

Unfortunately, my images of this spread are weak - British winter is in full force so I think I'll be heading back to the scanner until spring now!

Oui / Non
- gold paint, ink & collage

I prefer my daydreams to my nightmares. Simple as that.
