GET MESSY 2017 | ART 101 | WEEK 3

I have had a hectic week, but as I am a member of get messy habit (dedicated to creating at least one page a week) I really wanted to, and managed to, squeeze in some art journaling time!

I tackled one prompt; create your own palette complete with names. I used acrylic paint and had a great time creating my own blends. Naming colours is something I get to do at work so I was looking forward to being a bit more wild with this part! In the end though, I got a bit of writers block and went with more traditional names.

Creating my own blends was something I wouldn't normally do, I am more used to just using the colour as it comes from the tube, or making quite basic mixes. I enjoyed this process so much though, I think it is something I will return to and I feel as if I have opened up a little part of my brain.

Supplies used - I don't have a palette to mix on so I used some old cardboard.
I love the patterns my mixing made so will definitely be using this as collage fodder!

My palette.
Personal favorites being lemon frosting, parma violet (named by my husband) and mint choc. I also threw in a few personal names; lobster tail, Beatrice (the name and colour of my first car) and sunflower. A few of the blues I left un-named as I couldn't think of anything!

Future collage fodder.....

I am hoping to get a bit more time next week to create more pages and actually practice the tutorials shared this week!

GET MESSY 2017 | ART 101 | WEEK 2

As I blogged about last week, we have entered a new get messy season. This one being Art 101. I am trying every tutorial that is taught during the season and focusing more on expanding my knowledge of materials rather than completing "finished" pages. This week Riet wrote a tutorial about creating texture in your pages. Modelling paste featured heavily, which i don't have any of, so I used acrylic to build up layers.

Tools used to create the pages. I especially love using the foam rollers which I got from a local supermarket a few years ago!

GET MESSY 2017 | ART 101 | WEEK 1

Welcome to a new season of Get Messy! The first of 2017! Yey!

This season is Art 101, it's all about learning the tools of your trade, being introduced to new ones and life as an artist. I have decided to try as many as the tutorials as I can for this season, to focus on the materials and to learn new skills around them, rather than trying to complete "finished" pages each week.

This week we had two tutorials, one from Sasha on watercolours and one from Vanessa on gouache.

Here I was trying to make dreamy watercolour backgrounds from Sasha's tutorial.... Not sure how well this worked but I can see it becoming excellent collage fodder in the future!

Sasha's other technique was using cellophane and watercolour - I loved this! I did make a weird mess in the right hand corner though so covered it with some acrylic. I then made a mini moonscape as well because the page felt all magical and sky-like.

Gouache! I have only 2x tubes of gouche, one from college (pushing 10 years old) and one that Ammie sent me last week! I was very happy as the one from Ammie was the same as one V mentioned in the tutorial. Vanessa's tutorial was centred around drawing faces with the medium, playing with the opaque-ness. My faces were awful so I gave up and made this patterned page instead. As a tool I never use, I think I could really learn to love and enjoy gouache. I especially liked my discarded paint palette and tissue blots below!

COLOR BLAST | GREEN

Today I am sharing Lauren's green journal. I was the second person (after Lauren) to work in this journal, I love following her because she has such a playful and vibrant style! The whole Color Blast group will be sharing their work today, so make sure to have a look around everyone's :)

Color Blast 2017:

Julia - Orange
Vanessa - Grey
Lauren Brown - Green
Lauren Blood - Purple
Moriah - Crimson
Sarah - Mint
Riet - Yellow

The green journal is super cute and tiny, from Lauren's recent visit to Hong Kong.

We all will have to add in our music of choice when creating..

My childlike scribbles on the left, Lauren's collage on the right.

A 1975 quote for the obsessed fan that Lauren is!

The green journal is now on it's way to see Sarah in America!

GET MESSY SWAP | GARDEN PARTY

We recently had a swap within the Get Messy community, this time with the theme of a party. My partner was Moriah and I was sent a beautiful bunch of floral ephemera for a garden party.

These stamps... I die

Original polaroids!!

So much goodness!

It's winter in England so focusing on springtime flowers and their vibrant colours was lovely!

This ink and felt tip pattern play was my favourite page to create

Exploding florals..

As you can see, Moriah sent me so much stuff, I have a whole host of it left! Expect to see more pages featuring these elements in my pages soon.

Visit Moriahs instagram to see what kind of party I arranged for her journal..
