This weeks prompt for get messy art journal was set by me! I was really excited to be able to do this and can't wait to see the other members responses to it...

Purple rain
- pressed flowers, collage, washi tape & watercolour

The prompt was all about getting outside of your comfort zone and pushing yourself to try something new that you didn't necessarily consider your own style.
For me - a lover of all things bold, layered and coloured, it was exploring minimalism within art-journalling.

Eye swirl
- marbled paper, collage & marker pen

I'm really happy with my pages and found that pushing myself out of my creative safety zone refreshing and rewarding.
It's a style I'll definitely keep trying in the future and like that it feels fresh and new as well as maintaining the essence of 'me'.

Things that go bump in the night... ARGH !
- collage & felt tips

For all the brave, wonderful, strong women in my life!
- collage & spray paint

Our latest prompt in the get messy art journal programme was to create a Zine. This was a great prompt for me - something completely new and out of my usual comfort zone (hello, season of brave). I also went further out of my comfort zone by joining up with the wonder woman that is Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd. We have decided to create our zines both individually and then send a copy of each respective zine to the other, to add and expand to! I'm so excited to do this (my first ever art collab!) and to see what response Vanessa will have to my zine and how I can add to hers....

An overview of my pages and layout.
I focused my zine on the people in my life and their spirit animals.
Each one brave and unique

me and Vanessa will be sharing our take on one another zines, once they've made to each of us :) I kind of got carried away and finished mine so I'm sending her a finished folded one and the pages loosely as well for a bit more freedom.. I cant wait to see what she comes up with! Find her on her blog or instagram and guarenteed, you'll become as obsessed with her work as I am :)

New Season Time !!!!
Get Messy Art Journal is now starting it's second season in the year long programme - season of brave. I think that I am quite a brave person, whilst being scared of many things (heights, monitor lizards, mould, my own imagination...) so this season should be interesting and hopefully will help me shake off some cobwebs and try new things. I, at the very least want to be a braver, more confident art-journaller.. if not person!

for better, for worse, I am always myself
- collage, q-tip prints, watercolour & marker pen

This is my favourite quote about being brave and I try to live by it!
- collage & gouache

The season of brave runs from this week until the end of May so check back each week for pages around the theme and look for the hashtags #getmessyartjournal and #getmessyprompts on social media for more inspiring pages from my contemporaries!

Last month I took part in a daily drawing challenge set by the blogger @tinkersketch (Rachel Doorley). It was my fist time taking part in a challenge like this -
I am an avid fan of Fat Mum Slim's photo a day #fmsphotoaday and thought the tinkerlab drawing challenge would take it a step further creatively!

It also gave me a good chance to use my new favourite mini sketchbook :)

For April, I will be taking part in #makeyourmarkapril by @myfriendcourt (Courtney PIlgrim)

I'm not up to 365 days of drawing yet but maybe one year.. I think I would love it!
Let me know if you take part in challenges like this.. or if you have any good programmes to follow for May!
